Katmai National Park

Ouzel has been floating rivers for 35 years in Katmai National Park.  American Creek in Katmai is home to many many Brown Bears and of course lots of light tackle fishing for Rainbow and Char. You will see more bears on this river than any other river we run in Alaska.

American Creek  6 Day Fishing and Bear Viewing trips  $4,800, 7 days $4950.

Katmai National Park is home of the Bears. This area has more bears than any area we have ever seen. Rainbow river is our favorite river in Katmai. The fishing for lots of large Rainbow Trout is fantastic! It could be called the river of the Bears and Rainbows in late July all through August. It’s actually hard to explain just how many bears you will see on a float on the American during what we call the Bear run.  It has a very strong run of Sockeye Salmon and Sea Run Dolly Varden. Early in the season the dry fly fishing is as good as it gets, anywhere. It’s an awesome little stream with beautiful canyons and class III rapids.   It can be difficult to get down in low water times. It’s in Katmai so that means no hunting is allowed ever. There is lots of wildlife we’ve seen a wolverine being chased by fox! That’s unusual! We’ve had a wolf chase a bull Caribou right through camp in between our tents. We’ve seen Bears chase and fight each other many many times.
